Poffenberger prepares glasses

Lion Dale Poffenberger of the Detroit Lakes Lions Club is seated among 124 boxes of eyeglasses he has prepared for shipment to a recycling facility in Wisconsin.

The preparation work that has been completed by Poffenberger involves an inspection of each pair of eyeglasses in order to identify those eligible for reuse. He than packs them for shipment. The eyeglasses determined to be unusable are salvaged and discarded.

Daggett Truck Lines has agreed to provide transportation without charge to the Lions and the eyeglasses have been delivered to their terminal in Frazee for subsequent shipment to Wisconsin.

The 124 boxes pictured with Poffenberger contain an average of 200 eyeglasses each, thus about 25,000 pairs of glasses will ultimately provide improved vision for someone in need.

Thanks to the Lions Club of 5M9 for their part in the collection of the used eyeglasses, Daggett for their contribution and an acknowledgement and special thanks to Lion Poffenberger for all the time and energy that he has devoted to this program.
