Sunglasses offer diversity of styles and attributes to suit your personality needs. Gone are the days of sporting with sunglasses having only polarized, photo chromic or gradient lenses. These days’ people want them along with the name of a prominent brand. We can see the changes in trends of sunglasses in terms of all three things frame’s color, lens color and type, and frame’s shape.

Frame’s Color

The choices for frame’s color is highly unpredictable. Black is a universal choice for frame’s color irrespective of any trend, along with that, this year neon and shamelessly bright frames in shades of yellow, mango, and ultramarine are in demand. During spring-08 colorful frames are being presented by different sunglass designers. This is an invasive trend in the making. Deep Red and other shades of Red are also popular this season.

Lens color and type

For sunglasses dark colored lenses or lens with dark shades or gradients are always in demand due to nature and use of sunglasses. Black shades are no longer in demand by fashion enthusiasts as earlier days. Lenses these days acquire the full-color behavior, from a gradient lens which is actually a blend of more than one color with different effects. Mirror-coated lenses also knows as a flash lens, termed as ghost lens if coating is of silver is again in demand. These ghose lenses are among best-sellers, one can find them in blue, green, purple and pink as well.

Frame’s Color and Shape

Currently popular frames are not from a single color or shape. Hot trends current are large rectangular or square plastic frames in white, pink, purple, orange or yellow and blue or green. Oversize sunglasses are popular due to their sporty looks and extra benefit of maximum security from sunlight, pollution and strong winds.

1. Distant vision and near vision
The DV portion of the prescription describes the corrections for distant vision. For most people under forty years old, this is the only part of the prescription that is filled in. The NV or near-vision portion of the prescription is blank because a separate correction for near vision is not needed.
The NV portion is used in prescriptions for bifocals.
For younger people, the lens of the eye is still flexible enough to accommodate over a wide range of distances. With age increased, the lens hardens and becomes more and more difficult to be accommodated.
This is called “presbyopia;” the “presby-” root means “old” or “elder.” (It is the same meaning as in the words “priest” and “presbyterian.”)
The hardening of the lens is a continuous process, not something that suddenly happens in middle age. It is occurring all along. All that happens around middle age is that the process progresses to the point where it starts to interfere with reading. Therefore almost everybody needs glasses for reading from the age of 40-45.
Because young children have a wider range of accommodation than adults, they sometimes examine objects by holding them much closer to the eye than an adult do.
It’s said that a schoolchild has over ten diopters of accommodation, while a fifty-year-old has only two. This means that a schoolchild is able to focus on an object about 10 cm. (4″) from the eye, a task for which an adult needs a magnifying glass with a rated power of about 3.5X.
The NV correction due to presbyopia can be predicted by the parameter age only. The accuracy of such a prediction is sufficient in many practical cases, especially when the total correction is less than 3 diopters. See also the following calculator for computing this correction.
2. Variations in prescription writing
There is a surprising amount of variations in the ways that prescriptions are written; the layout and terminology is not uniform.
When no correction is needed, the spherical power will sometimes be written as “0.00″ and sometimes as “Plano” or “Pl”. The lens, although not flat, is optically equivalent to a flat piece of glass, and has no refractive power.
When cylindrical correction is needed, the mathematics used to denote the combination of spherical and cylindrical power in a lens can be notated two different ways to indicate the same correction. One is called the plus-cylinder notation and the other is the minus-cylinder notation.
These two prescriptions are equivalent:

Both of them specify a power of +2.00 diopters at the 90th (vertical) meridian and +3.00 diopters at the 180th (horizontal) meridian.
The first one specifies a +2.00 spherical component, which would give a power of +2.00 diopters in all meridians, and adds a +1.00 cylindrical component at 180 degrees (perpendicular to the axis indicated on the prescription, as explained under Axis). The result is +2.00 diopters at the 90th meridian and 2.00 + 1.00 = +3.00 diopters at the 180th meridian.
The second one specifies a +3.00 spherical component, which would give a power of +3.00 diopters in all meridians, and adds a -1.00 cylindrical component at 90 degrees. The result is 3.00 − 1.00 = +2.00 diopters at the 90th meridian and +3.00 diopters at the 180th meridian.
In practice, Optometrists tend to use minus-cylinder notation, whereas Ophthalmologists tend to use plus-cylinder notation.

As I’m a white-collar working for an IT company, my appearance plays an important role in both my life and job. From appropriate clothing to a pair of proper glasses, I must pay attention to these particulars which show my taste more or less. So, like what I’ve said, what we need is not only light-colored shirt, tie, suit and good shoes, but also a pair of proper glasses to make ourselves look more elegant, wise and reliable.

To better choose suitable glasses, what we care is nothing but the frames and lens. Businessman should choose thinner frames suggesting that he is intelligent and full of inner wisdom. Besides, semi-frame or no-frame glasses which are light and delicate are also popular among white-collars.

The texture of frames can be metal or plastics. Frames made of various alloys are usually lightweight and strong with a good sense of touch. There are golden, silver and metal glasses frames with black or coffee color. Many Asians prefer the golden ones as the color is close to their yellow skin and elegant as well. However, glasses frames made of plastics are also welcomed by many people because they can well decorate a person if he/she works as a painter or a photographer. Special plastics frame can give us special working atmosphere.

The shapes of glasses frames are also diversified. There are round, oval, square and round classical style glasses frames. The four lateral boundaries frame with defined edges and corners is a typical men’s selection. And those well-deigned famous brands have their each style perfectly made.

The optical lenses are usually fragile. However, they are high temperature-resistant and not easy to be scratched by hard things. Resin lens are lightweight and not easily broken, but can be scratched on the surface. Crystal lens absorb some harmful light, which means many detrimental lights will come into our eyes. Nowadays, resin lens are more and more popular and the manufacturing technology is much more mature than before. There is antireflection and anti-UV film. The former one can improve the light transmittance which makes people see things more clearly and the latter one can block the Sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation. People who have to work for long time outdoor can try the UV400 lens.

When choosing glasses, the key is not only to just consider professions but also the shape of face, the color of skin and clothing. Only by harmonious collocation, can we show our individual characteristics.
