Nowadays, an increasing number of people have failing eyesight, especially the young people. Some of them may have fallen victim to day to day hard learning and others may attribute their failing eyesight to the excessive TV watching. Since they have become near-sighted, they have to wear prescription glasses. But since most of them are young people, boys and girls, more often than not, they are fashion-conscious and appearance-sensitive. They don’t want to wear something that is ugly or that will make them look stupid. On the contrary, they prefer something lovely, stylish and attractive. So even if they are used as prescription tools, prescription glasses also have to be designed and made beautiful enough to suit and satisfy the huge number of young consumers.

fashion prescription glasses frames

However, the prescription glasses sold in local glasses stores are usually made in traditional types and look too formal for young people. Besides, they are often sold at formidably high prices which are often beyond the reach of the young students, or they are not suitable for those fashion-aware customers who will often change their glasses types to take on a new look and therefore need not buy very expensive prescription glasses. Then if you are thinking of buying a pair of prescription glasses of high quality but with mot much money, those glasses sold in online stores can be a perfect choice for you.

Maybe some of you are worried about the quality of the glasses direct online for they cannot see them and examine their quality carefully with their eyes. At this point, I can be quite confident to tell you that the quality of prescription glasses sold in the online store where I have bought several pair of prescription glasses, either for myself or give to friends and relatives as gifts, is very reliable.

Furthermore, prescription eyeglasses sold there are made in various types, shapes and with different colors. They can suit different budgets and tastes. Some of them look very fashionable while others can be fairly formal to suit another group of people, like successful businessmen and professors. And all of them are sold at very reasonable prices and even quite low prices.

Considering what I have said above, buying glasses like fashion glasses from this online store is good choice and decision. By the way, you may get to this store at the site

My prescription has changed little over the years, but my optometrist would always end my appointments with a warning: “You know how your parents have to hold the newspaper far away to see the words?” the eye doc asked.

“Yes,” I said.

“That will happen to you sooner, rather than later,” the optometrist said.

“Something to look forward to.”

Fast-forward to my last appointment with the eye doc and that prediction had become a reality — and worse.

I was having a little trouble seeing at night while I was driving. Don’t get me wrong, I could see all of the main things needed to safely travel the roads, but the road signs were a little fuzzy from time to time.

“Should I be wearing these when I drive?” I asked the eye doc.

“You should wear them when you want to see,” he said.

Everyone’s a comedian.

I’ve now accumulated enough pairs of glasses I can almost always find a pair at a moment’s notice.

But on a recent trip to Gatlinburg, I ran into a minor challenge.

I’d only taken one pair of glasses, and I kept leaving them in the hotel room.

One night a large group of dancers and families walked to Calhoun’s for dinner.

It was really way past the dinner hour, so the lights were already dimmed in the restaurant and I was tired.

I couldn’t read the menu.

I was going to order cheese sticks — every restaurant has those, right?

But I was saved by Kathi and Sally.

They’d worked out a system — Kathi was the keeper of the community glasses, the reading glasses everyone would use to read the menu.

She pulled them out of her purse and passed them across the table.

“We’ve been sharing glasses all week,” said Sally, who was also sitting across from me.

Viola, I could see the menu perfectly, even though I was tired and it was dark.

I wear eyeglasses. The pair of mine cost me a few hundred dollars, right? Oh, no, it is less than $30 — frames, lenses, and shipping.

Yes, they’re prescription glasses. Yes, they have the all-important antiglare coating. And, no, they’re not ugly plastic “cheaters” like they sell at the dollar store. In fact, they’re stylish metal-alloy frames with a blue coating.

I scored this deal from Zenni Optical, one of several Web outlets that sells prescription eyeglasses on the cheap–the really, really cheap.

Zenni, the only company I’ve tried thus far, offers a wide selection of frames, with prices ranging from $8-19, lenses included. All you need is your current prescription, which you can get from your optometrist.

Speaking of which, it took about a month for my order to arrive, during which time I received no updates or tracking number from the company. When I requested them, I got vague replies.

The glasses themselves look nice and seem perfect from a prescription standpoint. However, they pinch the heck out of one side of my nose, and I don’t know how to make the proper adjustments. That’s one point in favor of sticking with an optometrist: you get help with fit, repair, and so on.

What do you think? Are online eyeglasses the way to go, or should you trust your eyes only to the professionals?

I’m thinking it’s time to see how I look in a pair of Danny Gokey frames. Good singer, great eyewear.

1. Distant vision and near vision
The DV portion of the prescription describes the corrections for distant vision. For most people under forty years old, this is the only part of the prescription that is filled in. The NV or near-vision portion of the prescription is blank because a separate correction for near vision is not needed.
The NV portion is used in prescriptions for bifocals.
For younger people, the lens of the eye is still flexible enough to accommodate over a wide range of distances. With age increased, the lens hardens and becomes more and more difficult to be accommodated.
This is called “presbyopia;” the “presby-” root means “old” or “elder.” (It is the same meaning as in the words “priest” and “presbyterian.”)
The hardening of the lens is a continuous process, not something that suddenly happens in middle age. It is occurring all along. All that happens around middle age is that the process progresses to the point where it starts to interfere with reading. Therefore almost everybody needs glasses for reading from the age of 40-45.
Because young children have a wider range of accommodation than adults, they sometimes examine objects by holding them much closer to the eye than an adult do.
It’s said that a schoolchild has over ten diopters of accommodation, while a fifty-year-old has only two. This means that a schoolchild is able to focus on an object about 10 cm. (4″) from the eye, a task for which an adult needs a magnifying glass with a rated power of about 3.5X.
The NV correction due to presbyopia can be predicted by the parameter age only. The accuracy of such a prediction is sufficient in many practical cases, especially when the total correction is less than 3 diopters. See also the following calculator for computing this correction.
2. Variations in prescription writing
There is a surprising amount of variations in the ways that prescriptions are written; the layout and terminology is not uniform.
When no correction is needed, the spherical power will sometimes be written as “0.00″ and sometimes as “Plano” or “Pl”. The lens, although not flat, is optically equivalent to a flat piece of glass, and has no refractive power.
When cylindrical correction is needed, the mathematics used to denote the combination of spherical and cylindrical power in a lens can be notated two different ways to indicate the same correction. One is called the plus-cylinder notation and the other is the minus-cylinder notation.
These two prescriptions are equivalent:

Both of them specify a power of +2.00 diopters at the 90th (vertical) meridian and +3.00 diopters at the 180th (horizontal) meridian.
The first one specifies a +2.00 spherical component, which would give a power of +2.00 diopters in all meridians, and adds a +1.00 cylindrical component at 180 degrees (perpendicular to the axis indicated on the prescription, as explained under Axis). The result is +2.00 diopters at the 90th meridian and 2.00 + 1.00 = +3.00 diopters at the 180th meridian.
The second one specifies a +3.00 spherical component, which would give a power of +3.00 diopters in all meridians, and adds a -1.00 cylindrical component at 90 degrees. The result is 3.00 − 1.00 = +2.00 diopters at the 90th meridian and +3.00 diopters at the 180th meridian.
In practice, Optometrists tend to use minus-cylinder notation, whereas Ophthalmologists tend to use plus-cylinder notation.

The Somerset County Office for the Disabled will be holding a “spring-cleaning” collection of used prescription eyeglasses through April.

The public is invited to donate used eyewear that will be given to people home and abroad who do not have access to eye care.

Eyeglasses may be placed in a drop box in the lobby of the Somerset County Human Services Building at 27 Warren St., in Somerville weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free parking is available in the visitors’ parking lot at the corner of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Warren Street. Metered parking also is available on Main Street.

“This is the fifth year the county is collecting eyeglasses,” said Freeholder Patricia Walsh, human services liaison. “Thanks to the public’s generosity, more than 3,000 eyeglasses have been donated in past collections.”

Collected eyeglasses will be distributed by New Eyes for the Needy of Short Hills to medical missions and international charitable organizations around the globe. Residents of the United States will be given vouchers, which they then can use to purchase new prescription eyeglasses.

New Eyes for the Needy is a non-profit organization that has been distributing used eyeglasses since 1932 to people who are in desperate need of them.

In addition to prescription eyewear, the Office for the Disabled will be collecting nonprescription sunglasses and precious metal scraps, such as old watches, jewelry, silverware and hearing aides. These items are sold for their metal content to buy prescription lenses.

By X. D.

I’ve just got a pair of glasses which cost me only $43.75 including postage. The glasses are as pretty as the picture I saw in the Internet before, and so is the package. When I just received them, they were in black glasses box and there was a bag outside them. I like them very much. What’s more, they also posted me a screwdriver and some snails, freely. It’s really let me satisfied.

I have a very bad vision, SPH value -19 for my right eye, but I still found the cheapest index 1.50 eyeglass. I’ve already known that they may be a little bit thick. Nevertheless, it doesn’t matter when I’m wearing them. I’m really satisfied with the low price I got it.

I have to thanks for the website on which I bought the glasses www.glassesshop.com. It has always been hard for me to find the right glasses shop to fill my prescription. For others, either they don’t have the glasses I want, or their prices are too high. Later, I started to search some websites which sell glasses online. Unfortunately, I found most of them only supply the eyeglass under 15.00. At the end, I found Glassesshop through Google. They provided the Live Chat online. I saw this kind of service for the first time. Lisa, who was working on the Live Chat, answered my questions friendly. She told me that they could make the eyeglass even above 20.00. So I ordered my glasses on the website immediately, and looked forward to receiving them.

But in the second day I ordered, I got a phone call from Glassesshop. They told me that the PD (pupil distance) I had filled in was 54, which was shorter than ordinary people, so they called to make sure. They suggested me to reaffirm, and told me some ways to measure my PD, which were really helpful. Then I found that my exact PD was 62. I really appreciated the considerate service provided by the website.

I am too cheerful to wearing these pair of new glasses. I’ve recommended this website to a lot of friends and relatives. In addition, I found some coupon code from Google. I’m glad to share with you. H5FJ-V1OV-7L7E，07IN-RLVM-Z1TG, (you can get a 10% OFF discount)

The need for prescription eyeglasses could come from many different eye conditions. The most common eye disorders are Farsightedness, Nearsightedness and Presbyopia.

Nearsightedness, otherwise known as Myopia, is the most common eye disorder. It occurs when light focuses in front of the retina rather than focusing on the retina. The symptoms for Myopia are blurred vision on objects that are in the distance. Squinting the eye will actually make the object clearer. Vision can be corrected with prescription eyeglasses with either a bifocal or trifocal lens.

Farsightedness, or Hyperopia, is just the opposite of Myopia. The light focuses behind the retina instead of in front of the retina. One common symptom of Hyperopia is headaches or the eyes will become tired from reading. It is difficult to see objects that are within close range. In children, the most common symptom is crossed eyes. Again this eye disorder, too, can be corrected by wearing prescription eyeglasses.

Presbyopia is another type of eye condition that can be corrected with prescription eyeglasses. This disorder is where the eye’s lens cannot focus. This usually happens to everyone in his or her late forties. The symptoms for Presbyopia are that a person finds himself or herself holding reading material farther away to enable reading. Also, eye fatigue is a common symptom.

The importance of getting regular eye exams to check for these eye conditions can’t be overstated. Left untreated, all of these conditions will only worsen.

In a routine eye exam the optometrist will also do a glaucoma test. Glaucoma is the build up of fluid on the eye that results in pressure on the retina. It is irreversible if left untreated, and can cause total loss of sight. This is one eye disorder that cannot be treated by wearing prescription eyeglasses. However, this condition rarely has symptoms, therefore stressing the importance of routine eye exams.

It is suggested that a person should have their eyes examined by an optometrist every two years or every year after the age of 60, to determine whether they need to wear prescription eyeglasses. Also, If any of the following symptoms occur, then an eye exam needs to be scheduled.

* having a hard time focusing in on objects.

* the eyes are red or swollen for unknown reasons.

* unusual headaches reoccur while reading, watching television or working on a computer.

There are some tests during a routine eye exam to determine whether prescription eyeglasses are needed.

Glaucoma test. It is a build up of fluid in the eye that causes the retina to have pressure. Glaucoma doesn’t really have any symptoms, but over time can cause total vision loss.

Peripheral vision test. It determines the degree of side vision that a person has.

Visual Acuity test. It is the test that determines one ability to distinguish letter, shapes and number in various sizes and from various distances.

There are three professions that work with the eyes.

An Optometrist examines the eyes for diseases and medical conditions. They are licensed to dispense prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, and any needed medications.

An ophthalmologist is an eye doctor that can perform any needed eye surgeries. They work very closely with the optometrist.

An Optician is a person that makes the lenses, frames and contact lenses. They analyze the prescription that the Optometrist has given. They assist with fitting frames and lenses.

When the exam shows that prescription eyeglasses are needed, the optometrist will then either help you decide which frames and lenses best suits your specific needs, or refer you to an optician.
